Steven Drew Poeling has been an artist all of his life. From pencil drawings and stencil paintings to photography, music and video. Steven loves being creative and sharing his work with others.
MY STORY
Steven Drew Poeling is an artist who paints, shoots photos and writes music. Steven is a strong believer in simplicity and color... whether that be paint on a canvas, the image through a camera lens or the message of a song. Steven started the small independent record label Cody Records in 1993. Much of his art and design can be found in the label's album art.

NEWS GRAPHICS
Using art to expand the story.
Steven spent close to 20 years in broadcast news journalism. Most of that time Steven was a producer. The stations Steven worked for lacked a graphic artist for the news department. The job of creating graphics was left to the producers. While priority was set for writing scripts, editing scripts, researching new content and stacking the show, Steven scratched in what little time left to create these graphics. The are simple and not complex, but display Steven's creativity and desire to expand the story.
PAINTINGS & DESIGN
Stencils & music
Steven started Cody Records in 1993. Steven designed the majority of the album art used by the label. Steven enjoyed planning out the design of a DIY CD label, the next silk screen T-shirt design and punk rock show flyers. At the same time Steven started dabbling in stencil paintings. Inspired by the sides of pinball machines, Steven explored going beyond the stereotypical jack-o-lantern one cut stencil designs and practiced a design similar to standard printmaking.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Panoramas & Colors of Light
Steven took up photography in high school. He enjoyed being part of the high school newspaper as a photographer. As the years changed, so did the media. From developing a roll of film and burning the images onto photo paper in the dark room to simply pulling out the slim palm sized device out of your pocket and pressing the screen. It seems so simple now. Steven wants to explore the creative possibilities that the new photography has to offer.
